Namibia suffers from a relative high crime rate. The most common crimes are property-motivated crimes of opportunity, including pick pocketing, purse snatching, vehicle theft, and vehicle break-ins. However, violent crimes are on the rise, although racist motivated crimes remain relatively low. The legal system is based on Roman-Dutch law and the constitution, which was created in only three months with the assistance of the United Nations, bears a close resemblance to German basic law.
