Namibia has traditionally depended heavily on foreign expertise and foreign development workers, while unemployment among the local work force has been around a third. The Namibian government is trying hard to change this. However, there remain fairly good work opportunities for highly skilled English or German speaking expats. The largest industries are mining, fishing and tourism.
