Pakistan is generally rather unsafe for foreigners due to the presence of several extremists group that specifically targets foreigners. In the larger cities terror is also of concern as is violent crime. Carjacking, armed robberies, house invasions, and other violent crimes occur in many major urban areas. Petty crime, especially theft of personal property, is also rather common. The Constitution of Pakistan requires all laws to be consistent with Islamic law (or Shari'a). Pakistan's judicial system stems directly from the system that was used in British India.
