Taiwan has one of the best educational systems in the world, at least when measured by test scores in mathematics and science subjects. Education is mandatory for 9 years for all Taiwanese children. The first six years are spent in primary school, which is followed by three years of junior high school. At the end of the third year of junior high school, the students sit a senior high school entrance test, which decides if they can continue in the three year academic orientated senior high school or go to vocational schools.
Successful completion of the former in combination with another entrance test allows students to continue their education at one of the country’s many universities. Taiwan has a wide selection of excellent international schools.
