Despite a recent increase in the Taiwanese unemployment rate, the job situation remains good for expats. Most jobs are available for teachers to work in the many English-language schools, or to give private tuition. A formal teaching education is not required although a university degree is preferred. Many expats also work for one of the considerable number of multinational companies present in Taiwan.
