Most foreign citizens, except a selected few, must obtain a visa to enter Taiwan, which allows them to stay for up to six months depending on visa type. All expats wishing to work in Taiwan must obtain a work permit. However, usually the foreign national must be a specialist or technical expert, or an executive in an enterprise incorporated by foreign nationals for the application to be successful. A long term residence permit is usually obtained with a work permit.
