The Bahamas education system is mostly public. According to the Bahamas government as much as 24% of the National Budget is allocated to education. The quality of education, however, has decreased over the past decade. School attendance is compulsory between the ages of 5 and 16. The Bahamas have a number of good international schools located on the major islands.
