The Bahamas offers residents a relaxed and friendly life-style with the tropical maritime climate making pursuits such as sailing, swimming, snorkelling and golf popular and enjoyable. English is the main language on the islands and there are a number of English language newspapers available. Although the lack of income tax and tax on investment, coupled with the burgeoning reputation of the islands (in particular Nassau) make it an attractive destination for possible future residence or retirement, there are, however, very high import duties. Expats will, therefore, not be living tax-free, so The Bahamas is perhaps more suitable for those with a substantial net worth.
