Except for four major two lane roads, Belize has only unpaved small roads in poor condition. However, more than 43 airports or airstrips are in operation. The main mode of transportation is by boat via the rivers and at the coast. There is no railway in Belize. Buses and taxis are frequently in poor condition and lack safety equipment.
