Relative to the size of its population, Costa Rica boasts a big expatriate community. The expats come from the United States, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Britain, and other countries. Many expats live in the Central Valley city of Escazu. The politcal and economical climate is well suited for foreign investments and the main sectors are also interesting to expats. Electronics, pharmaceuticals, financial outsourcing, software development, and ecotourism have become the prime industries in Costa Rica's economy.
