Costa Rica's public transportation system is good with regular and cheap fares. San José is the hub of public transport. Although some of the road system in Costa Rica is in bad shape most of the country is reachable by bus and car. Buying or renting a car is not a bad idea because of the small size of the country. Flying is another option if you are going from one end of the country to another. There are also a number of ferries. The train system in Costa Rica is not very developed.
