Mexico is suffering quite heavily from crime. Drug trafficking to the United States is a major concern in Mexico as well as violent gang related crimes in major urban centres. Like in many other Latin American countries kidnapping is on the rise. However, murders are relatively low. Mexico City has a murder rate 5 times smaller than in Washington DC. The legal system is a mixture of US constitutional law and civil law.
