Foreigners can legally work in Mexico, for any length of time, as long as they obtain the required permission from the Mexican Immigrations Office. This is usually just a stamp in the FM-3, but it can, nonetheless, be a quite lengthy and frustrating experience. In the past century Mexico underwent major reforms from an agricultural economy to a highly industrial economy. As a consequence Mexico has a booming job market in areas of manufacturing and in the mining industry. Mexico has a very low general unemployment. However, the number of graduate jobs remains low and the unemployment rate among this group is therefore relatively high. It can be a significant advantage to speak good English, when applying for jobs in certain sectors.
