Panama has a large expat community considering its size and has been able to attract both foreign professionals and people, predominantly American, wishing to retire abroad. Most expats are found in Panama City, which in many respects is more modern that American cities of similar size. Another advantage with Panama is that English is widely spoken by the locals, although some knowledge of Spanish will be an advantage.
