Transportation in Panama is fairly well developed. Most long distance trips are done in cars or intercity busses. However, Panama also boosts the first transcontinental railway, although the public transportation system is in need of modernization and other improvements. Panama is a crossroads for air travel within the Americas and has several airports with connection to the rest of Latin America and beyond. Transportation within the capital is rather chaotic and at peak hours gridlocks and long queues are the norm. The easiest way of getting around is with the cheap taxis that are hailed in the street.
