Albanian is spoken by 8-9 millions in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia. It forms its own distinct branch of the Indo-European language family with no close links to other Indo-European languages. Albanian can be divided into two major dialects spoken in the north and the south of the country. English is not widely spoken, but more and more in the younger urban generations understand some English.
