Andorra is a very small landlocked principality in the south western part of Europe. It borders Spain to the south and France to the north. It is a very rich country mainly due to its status as a tax haven and from the tourism-generated income. The Andorran people were granted independence in 1278 as a reward for their resistance against the Moorish occupation of the Iberian peninsula. Except for brief invasions from the Northern Spanish regions or France the country has remained independent ever since. However, Andorra has traditionally been isolated from European politics and influence (except from Spain and France), although it became member of the United Nations in 1993.
