School attendance in the Czech Republic is compulsory from the age of 6 till 16. Most of the schools are state schools, but the number of private schools, where students have to pay, have been on the rise in recent years. The educational system is divided into kindergarten (age 3 to 6), elementary school (age 6 to 10), lower secondary (age 10 to 14), higher secondary school (age 14 to 18) and university. The Czech Republic have many international schools, but with the vast majority located in Prague.
