Crime and legal system in Hungary

Hungary has a low rate of violent crime. However, street crime occasionally involving violence has been reported, especially near major hotels and restaurants as well as in public transportation. Theft of passports, currency and credit cards is a frequent problem, especially in train stations. Hungary also has some problems with organised crime, although foreigners are usually not affected by that.

Hungarian law is derived from the Roman-Germanic family of law and the Hungarian legal system is influenced by the German-Austrian legal system. Foreign speaking lawyers and attorneys can be found in Budapest.
