Most schools are owned by the government in Hungary. Primary school is usually preceded by kindergarten where children spend 3 or 4 years. Children start primary school at the age of 7 and usually enter secondary education at 15 years of age. Secondary education lasts for 4 years and can be taken either at a Gymnasium which prepares students for university or at a vocational school. Hungary has a number of international schools, most of which are found in Budapest.
