Ireland has an extensive network of roads connecting the most remote regions with the larger cities.
Most of the transport system in Ireland is in public hands. Bus transportation is one of the most popular ways of travelling to and between the less populated regions.
There is also a well developed rail network, although the trains are not always completely reliable. Many lines serving poorly populated regions in the west were also decommissioned in the 1930s, but there is a campaign to bring them back. There are several ferry lines connecting Ireland with Great Britain. Ireland also has several international airports with links to the United Kingdom, continental Europe and beyond.
