There is an extensive and well maintained road network. Tolls are charged on the autostrade (highways). Good coach services run between cities and towns and there are also good local bus services. Italy has a wide spread railway network connecting most town and cities. The trains are relatively modern and comfortable and prices are reasonable. Ferries connect the islands with the peninsula and with neighbouring countries. Italy has more than 100 airports serving domestic routes as well as connections to the rest of Europe and beyond.
