The crime rate in Latvia is relatively low and most crime is non-violent. The non-violent crimes include pick-pocketing, identity theft, and personal scams. However, there have been instances of serious violent assaults and street crime is a serious problem in some urban areas. Internet crime is also a growing concern in Latvia. Common fraudulent schemes involve both Internet auction sites and Internet job search sites. Latvia has a three level court system - district or city courts, regional courts and the Supreme Court. Outside Riga it can be difficult to find lawyers and attorneys with an adequate command of English.
