Latvia has a comprehensive school system under which children are required to attend school from the age of 6 to 15. All children must complete nine years of primary schooling, which may be followed by three years of secondary education or one to six years in technical, vocational, or art schools. Three years in a general secondary school makes a student eligible to enter university.
