After the turmoil and economical recession following the break-up of the Soviet Union, the Latvian economy is slowly recovering and showing steady growth. However, there is still a relatively high rate of unemployment. There are many international companies in Latvia and job opportunities for globe-dwellers well versed in large European languages stand a better chance of a god job than locals. English is used for international communication and is the main language that young people are currently learning. Latvian, Russian and English are spoken in the work place.
