Due to its small size, Malta does not offer that many jobs outside the tourist and English language sector. It can, therefore, be quite difficult to find employment in Malta. Work permits are a requirement for non-EU citizens wishing to work in Malta. They are, however, quite difficult to obtain and are issued only in exceptional circumstances, e.g. when there are no Maltese nationals available to do the job.
