Monaco has its own legal system, Law Courts and Appeal Court. It is largely but not entirely based on the French Code Civil. Monaco is regarded as a very safe place in which to live and has low levels of crime. Violent crime is very rare. Nonetheless the usual precautions should be taken in crowded places.
