Norway has, in recent years, poured a substantial part of its oil riches into improving the infra-structure and making tunnels through the mountains for road and rail-lines. Today there are therefore good road connections between all major towns and cities barring the far north. However, the traditional form of transport is by boat or ferry and that still remains important in many regions. Norway has 51 public airports, but the main international gateway is Oslo Airport, Gerdermoen south of Oslo.
