Crime and legal system in Russia
The Russian legal system is a civil law system.
The crime rate is not low in Russia. Extortion and corruption are common in the business environment. Recently there have been reports of unprovoked, violent harassment against racial and ethnic minorities, including well-publicized cases in which members of minorities have been beaten and in several instances, murdered.
