Citizens have free healthcare. Expats do not. Good modern medical care and medicines are available in Doha, although only basic or no medical care may be available in Qatar ’s smaller cities or outlying areas. Serious medical problems requiring hospitalization and/or medical evacuation become expensive. Doctors and hospitals expect immediate cash payment for health services.

Consult with your medical insurance company prior to traveling abroad to confirm whether your policy applies overseas and whether it will cover emergency expenses such as a medical evacuation.
