Turkey has a relatively low crime rate and even petty street crimes, albeit found in larger city, is comparatively low. However, there are some security issues for foreigners as several terrorist attacks have occurred around the country. Turkey is a Muslim nation but constitutionally it is a secular state with a unified legal system of civil and military courts, each with a Court of Appeal sitting in Ankara. The Turkish legal system has been derived from various European systems, mainly French, Italian, and Swiss civil code. In the large cities it is possible to find a few English speaking lawyers and attorneys.
