The Turkish health care system is in a relatively poor state especially the public system in rural areas, but it is currently undergoing a reformation aiming at improving the facilities. However, private hospitals in general still have the most modern facilities and the most well trained staff. In some urban hospitals and in tourist areas it is possible to find English speaking staff. The average life expectancy is 71 years for men and 75 years for women.
