The United Arab Emirates has a well developed educational system offering comprehensive education from kindergarten to university. Education is free at all levels for UAE citizens. Primary education is compulsory and begins at the age of 6 and last six years. This is followed by preparatory school lasting three years followed by another three years at academic secondary school. Alternatively pupils can attend a secondary technical school from age 12 to age 18. Students successfully completing the academic secondary school can enrol at a university. There is a considerate number of International Schools in the United Arab Emirates with the majority found in Dubai.
