Canada is the world's second largest country. It makes up the greater part of North America, bordering the United States. Aboriginal peoples have been living in Canada for millennia. In the late fifteenth century French and British expeditions began to settle the Atlantic coast of Canada. In 1867 Canada became a federal dominion. The last vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament were cut with the Canada Act 1982. The federation now comprises three territories and ten provinces. Canada is a stable democracy with a good economy reliant on the vast natural resources of the country. The United States is by far Canada's primary tradepartner, in fact their trade is the biggest between any two countries in the world. The climate in Canada varies but it gets very cold during the winters. Coastal British Columbia is an exception and enjoys a temperate climate with a mild and rainy winter. Canada has spectacular nature.
