The health care programme for resident Australians is called Medicare. It is also available to some seeking residence and even tourists from certain countries. You should make sure you are covered by private insurance if you are not covered by Medicare. Always get receipts when receiving immediate medical attention to show for later refunds from Medicare. Note that expats are not normally covered by Medicare, but often by their sponsor.
