Languages in New Zealand

English is a West Germanic language and part of the Indo-European group of languages. It is the dominant international language in communications, science, business, aviation, entertainment and diplomacy. The language of the original residents in New Zealand is Maori, which is spoken by around 160,000 people. It is an Eastern Polynesian language closely related to Tahitian and somewhat related to Hawaiian.
