Approximately 41,500 expats live and work in Denmark (2010), and a study among 1,505 of these has been conducted to "identify areas where Denmark can do better, especially in the way we target the challenge of globalising our corporate cultures and search for human resources internationally.".
One of the main findings of the study is that according to 90% of the expats assistance with the practical issues of relocating is very important, and that the expats furthermore value organized support in their effort to integrate such as language courses, buddy and mentor programmes etc. Good language skills is indicated as one of the main factors for making expats feel integrated.
However, only about a third of the expats work in companies that offer assistance with practical issues of the relocation to Denmark. According to the study assisting the expats initially is a wise investment by the employer, as the expats will perform better at work and are more likely to stay for longer.
