A recent CNN blog post 'School woes for expats in Hong Kong' led to some sarcastic comments about expatriates being "pampered babies".
In a follow-up Hilary Whiteman at CNN describes how the world has changed for expatriates and that the word "expatriate" is actually outdated. Today being an expatriate is not synonymous with privileges, easy money, private clubs and private schooling.
In fact according to Whiteman companies are increasingly using the term "assignees" instead of "expatriates", so as not to creates false expectations that an international move will be packaged with perks.
What do you think, is "expatriate" an outdated term?
